The Taylormade line of golf balls is getting better every year. The TP5 and TP5x balls for 2017 are no exception. I really like these golf balls, and I was actually surprised that I liked the firmer TP5x just a little more that the TP5, for me. Both balls have 5 layer construction, something that Taylormade has used since the older Penta balls.

What is new is the softer and yes faster core, and a much more durable cover than before. Both balls do not feel firmer than other brands, they spin as well as the other top balls out there, but it is the feel on full shots that I love. These balls go a long way and do it with really great feel. Off the driver and long irons, they are explosive with the TP5x flying higher than the TP5. Both produce low spin with, as I would expect, a bit more workability with the TP5x. The “X” for me let me produce a little fade when I wanted with the driver, but did not spin out on miss hits. The TP5 was just dead straight all day with a little lower ball flight.

Around the green, I love the feel of both of these balls. They have drop and stop with your PW/AW but will spin back a little with a 58 or 60 degree wedge. But like all pro balls in recent years spinning them back is a little harder.

Putting feel is nice, not to soft not to crispy.

Overall, I recommend both balls. They are certainly as good as the number 1 ball out there. Hit ’em straight!
